Dr. Nancy Yen Shipley is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with fellowship training in arthroscopy and sports medicine. After 14 years as a partner at Multnomah Orthopaedic Clinic, she launched her own solo practice: Form & Function Orthopaedics, a high-performance clinic dedicated to restoring movement and rethinking aging through orthopaedics, regenerative medicine, and longevity-focused care. Her practice blends surgical precision with unapologetic empathy, delivering whole-person musculoskeletal care for active individuals in midlife and beyond
She earned her B.A. in Psychology at the University of California, Los Angeles. Before pursuing medicine, she worked in the snowboarding industry and event management. She later attended Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, completed her orthopaedic surgery residency at Virginia Commonwealth University, and went on to advanced fellowship training at Orthopaedic Research of Virginia.
Dr. Yen Shipley is experienced in caring for athletes of all levels and has served as team physician for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team, Multnomah University, Portland Interscholastic League, IAAF World Indoor Track & Field Championships, University of Richmond, and the Virginia Special Olympics.
Beyond the operating room, she is a passionate advocate for education, mentorship, and representation in medicine. As co-founder of the nonprofit SpeakUp Ortho, she amplifies the voices of women and underrepresented groups in surgical fields. She is also the creator and host of the award-winning podcast “The 6% with NancyMD”, where she interviews women thriving in male-dominated industries. A frequent speaker and featured contributor on platforms like KevinMD, Dr. Yen Shipley writes and speaks widely on orthopedic health, physician leadership, and diversity in medicine.
In her downtime, Dr. Yen Shipley enjoys snowboarding, playing tennis, belting out karaoke, traveling with her family, and savoring the food and scenic views of her adopted hometown of Portland.
